Rainbow Swirl

This striking, colorful quilt is a great introduction to patchwork. Look closely and you will see that it made from 2 repeating blocks set in a checkerboard arrangement! In this class you will learn how to cut patchwork shapes from strips of cloth using both the rotary cutter and acrylic templates. The striking coloration comes from the hand dyed fabrics used for this project. All class fabric is pre-washed and ready for use. Kit is available in 3 color combinations.

If you look at this quilt, and think it is difficult, you should take this class before you can take the Vivid Dahlia class.

Not Giant Vivid Dahlia

Everything has a trick, and this quilt is much easier than it looks! The colorful combination is created from Shades Hand Dyed Textiles, and the pieces are cut from acrylic templates From Marti Michell. This class makes a “Not So Giant Dahlia” that is a 36 inch circle. You will learn everything you need to know to make a Giant Dahlia with a 52 inch circle! We have found that Dahlia quilts are like potato chips, you can not make just one! Once you understand how easy it is, you will want to make a dozen!

It is suggested that you take the Rainbow Swirl class first, but if you have strong patchwork skills and/or you are familiar with Perfect Patchwork Templates by Marti Michell it is not necessary. Skill level is intermediate.

2 For 1 Hula Lessons

Stacy might do a hula dancing . . . Stacy will entertain and educate you with stories from her many trips to Japan and Hawaii. You will learn to carefully cut a Hawaiian-style quilt design, and get 2 blocks from 1 “cutting”! Your fabric (called “Hula-Hoop”) radiates color, and from this you’ll cut your design. Learn some great machine appliqué methods as you complete the sewing and assembly of this gorgeous project in almost no time at all. If you’re quick enough, there might be hula lessons after all! Bring SHARP SMALL scissors for cutting the appliqué.

Color Cups

Stacy started dying fabric in 1986, and has seen her pieces featured in numerous award-winning quilts over the years. After 20 years as a textile artist, she developed a neat way to teach this messy technique in a convention center venue! Explore basic principles behind the chemistry of fabric dyes to begin; then don rubber gloves and your dye-stainable apron as you get down to it: dyeing rainbows, gradations or color blends.  Whether you already have a stash or have simply appreciated the subtleties of hand-dyed fabrics, you’ll enjoy learning and creating with Stacy. Wear comfortable dye-stainable clothes or bring an apron. All dyes, containers, dye-ready
